Dear Torchie developers,
I have Xiaomi Mi 9T with Android 9 and MIUI 11. They say, that a slide left should open a torch, but it doesn't do nothing for me. I've tried a TON of apps, but none of them was able to launch the torch
of my phone from the lock screen. Torchie was the first one to work, after I have given it all the necessary permissions.
However, after a couple of minutes it stopped turning on the Torch.
Now I checked again, and it seems that the service is not enabled or Torchie doesn't know about that...
Just the toggle is on the left side, when I click it, I am again getting the long text to enable the Service and then it again says, that it's not enabled.
PLEASE help me to get this working !!
Thanks a lot !!!
some phones have hardware assistant button build into it. android let users assign assistant app to this button, but only few (google voice something and firefox in my case) are listed as compatible with this feature. would it be possible if torchie pretends to be such assistant application? this would be really something! and for many users that would mean they can have that hardware button useful again :) thank You
The new workaround is highly reliable. Too reliable, I'd say. I have to completely unlock my phone in order to change any output source.

Hi,
Your application is very useful to me to bring light via screen, however I find the screen too bright.
Could you please allow us to select screen brightness via settings? The light could therefore be bright enough to read without disturbing the mate sleeping close ๐
Thanks for your time.
Regards,
Valentin.
I'm not sure why I'd ever want to use a language other than the system default.
Some users reported that they hear some pulsating/static noise when in screen off, only when the functionality is enabled for Screen off. Not all the devices shows this effect.
Torchie plays a zero-volume music to play music. See How Torchie works?. May be that's causing an issue?
I am using a Samsung Galaxy S10+ running Android 11 with Samsung's OneUI Version 3.0.
When I try toggling the flashlight with the shortcut buttons ("Volume up & down for 3 seconds" or "Volume Up & Power Button"), it enables and disables Torchie's Accessibility Permission instead of the actual flashlight while the screen is on or on the lock screen. If the screen is turned off, the shortcut buttons work properly to turn on/off the flashlight.
I hope this bug can be solved but I do know that Android has become more Privacy secure and making these types of apps harder and harder to use on newer versions of Android.
See title. Is this normal? I'm using Sony Xperia XZ1 on Pie.
Everything works just fine and torch turns on normally, but I have to wake up the screen to control the volume if I enable screen off controls in Torchie. Using current version from F-Droid (3.2.1).
I unfortunately just updated to Android 12, and I can no longer use Torchie's shortcut option. I've tried resetting the apps permissions but it doesn't appear to have fixed anything.
even though I've disabled Torchie on the lock screen there's sometimes a Torchie slider bar popping up at the top edge of the screen when I want to adjust the ringtone volume with the Vol buttons

To develop this application I will propose a logo proposal to change a little design with new color variations and design shapes, before I start first I beg for approval from the admin..thank you..
Hello! Nice app.
Since the last update from f-droid (3.2) the torch goes off by itself but the waiting time is disabled and sometimes does not turn on when pressing the buttons.
The previous version worked perfect
Android 4.4
v3.0 fails to build on F-Droid. Steps to reproduce: run gradle assembleRelease
.
First issue is that com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.0.0
is available in the new Google Maven repo, not JCenter. Solution: add google()
to the repositories
sections of the root build.gradle
.
Second issue is failing lintVitalRelease
task: Error: Non-translatable resources should only be defined in the base values/ folder
. Solution: fix those errors or disable them (add checkReleaseBuilds false
into build.gradle
) or make them non-fatal (add abortOnError false
into build.gradle
).
When I try building the app in Android Studio I get errors for the XML file values_It/strings.xml. There are two resources tags.
I set the time-out to 5 second and the touch light should turned off by the set timed
After setting the time-out to 5 second the light was still ON after it has exceeded the set "time-out"time.
Download and launch
Click on the 3 horizontal dot
Click on settings
Click on "Torch time-out"
5 Go back to the main page and Switch ON the touch

Not many devices have this, but some, like mine, have a front-facing flashlight and it would be nice if it could be toggled. Either by default, after a second Torchie toggle, by default and the main light at second toggle, or not at all.

Torchie turns on when I press both Vol buttons at once.
Though, 'at once' rarely is true, there's always a tiny delay between the two button actions.
Which turns out to be feature, because to toggle your LED:
you can slide over the Vol rocker in any direction
you can press/release both buttons discretely one after the other, which increases accessibility IMO
..but also a bug:
on my device, Torchie appears to wait more than 2min for that second button press, and the LED turned on unnoticed in my pocket quite a few times...and sometimes I could not toggle the LED afterwards
Reproduce:
make sure Torchie is turned off
lock screen, screen off
press Vol +
wait up to 2 minutes
press Vol -
LED turns on
I think a timeout of a few seconds would fix the bug and also keep the accessibility feature.

There is currently no flashlight widget provided by the app.
It would be nice, if there would be a widget available to conveniently start the app from the homescreen.
Such a widget is included in several other popular (bloated) flashlight apps and in the free software

Language options should change when trying other language options
I tried changing my language options from English language to other language options like espanol, French, Deutsch etc but nothing changes. English language remained the only language it displays
Download Torchie application from Android playstore, go to settings, try other languages apart from default English language, it won't work.
Torchie's auto-off function makes it a great option for function-key launch (on phones with function keys or bixby remap) but to be really perfect, I'd prefer the light to come on with that single button press (and then turn off automatically since single button presses are pretty easy to trigger accidentally).
Thanks,
David
please let us turn off torch after custom period of time, or at least make the options go beyond 10 minutes (like 15, 20, 30, 45). thanks!
After reviewing the most positive and negative reviews for the Torchie app in the Google Play store, as well as the top topics and review sentiments from potential competitors, I discovered some issues users were experiencing with certain devices.
Users with devices such as the Note 8, Nexus 6p, Android 12, Pixel 4, Samsung S10e, LG phone, Samsung A30, and Xiaomi K20 Pro experienced issues with the app.
For example, the following are some specific cases extracted from Google Play Store reviews:
"Note 8, I can press the two-volume buttons together twenty times and nothing would happen",
"Also doesn't work with screen off ... on Nexus 6p",
"No working on Samsung s10e. Gave app permission, turned on the vol up and down permissions and assigned torchie... Nuthin. I get a notification that the app has been turned on and off but the light itself stays off",
"HTC M8 Seems to only work if the lock screen is lit. If it's not lit, nothing happens. Pressing both volume buttons also turns my ring volume down all the way into silent mode",
"volume buttons not working for samsung a30 & Xiaomi k20 pro........not working perfectly, just some times randomly it may work"
Like the title says, Torchie functionality somehow disables Nova Launcher gestures that use two fingers, like dual swipe down or pinch. One-finger gestures still work, though.
My Huawei T1 7.0 is on KitKat.
Installed Torches, granted all settings as it's explained. Activated all functions but nothing happens wenn I press both volume buttons.
Most apps use an icon marked with a safe zone that can be cropped to different shapes for different styles. Torchie does not do this, which makes it inconsistent with the rest of the system. Fixing this is a minor thing, but a major aesthetic improvement. Notice in my picture below that, besides not fitting the desired shape, the icon is actually subtly bigger than the others.
https://developer.android.com/develop/ui/views/launch/icon_design_adaptive
I can't change any of the in-app settings except "Vibrate". For example: I turn off "Proximity sense", then I close the settings menu, and when I open it again - it's set to ON again, this happens to all the other settings as well (except Vibrate).
Also, for some reason it added another volume slider (with Chromecast icon) and uses it for default when when using volume keys and the phone is locked, so basically now I can't change the volume when my phone is locked because it uses this Cast volume slider instead of the main (real) one.

Hello.
I have Nokia X2 (Android 4.3) phone. I like Torchie idea but it does not work on my phone. When I turn on Torchie's functions for controlling flashlight through volume's buttons, I can't use Android's blind (curtain). I mean that I even can't swap down it because blind immediately turn back up oneself!!!
Torchie does broke Nokia X2 blind at all!
Torchie's volume button trigger does not work when running Android 8.1 Developer Preview 1 on Google Pixel or Google Pixel 2 XL.
I'm using Torchie on Samsung Galaxy 21+ for several months and it works perfectly!
Using only when screen is off.
Yesterday I've got my new Galaxy Watch 4 (Wear OS) and noticed that while screen is off on my smartphone (so torchie activates) watches are showing the notification that music is playing (melody icon in the bottom of the screen on 1st screenshot, when tapping this icon - media controls widget is being open - 2nd screenshot).
Is it possible to get rid of that music controls / notification?
After reviewing the most positive and negative reviews for the Torchie app in the Google Play store, as well as the top topics and review sentiments from potential competitors, I discovered a potential design suggestion to improve the app's performance. It is suggested that you use one button (the start button) to turn on/off the torch and the volume buttons to control the brightness, to increase functionality.
Hello!
On Xiaomi I was able to turn the flashlight on with double tap of the volume keys and I wanted something similar on my Pixel 6a.
I'm unable, however, to make this app work.
First, it's unavailable in the Google Play Store because it was made for an earlier version (I have Android 14 at the time of writing).
Second, I can't give this app the required accessibility permission even when it's sideloaded (the operating system grays out and blocks this option for security reasons).
I suspect this app is discontinued, but just in case I wish an update to this app is launched so we can have a fast reaching fashlight at hand whenever it is needed.
Thank you
Flash Alert - Call and Message <Blink the terminal when receiving a call, SMS or an application notification>, when initiated while Torchie's light is on, disrupts it. I think that the nicest solution for that would be to implement it's functionality into Torchie.

as title says โ i cannot start using torch with volume buttons when screen is turned off. once i turn it on it's responsive and fine. is it known issue? how could i help to fix it? this is clean android 8.1
This wouldn't be much of an issue if
It didn't happen
Or, if there was a setting to make it so that only volume buttons turn it on or off.
