gender-neutralize's Introduction

Gender Neutralize

Chrome extension to turn unnecessarily gendered words into their gender-neutral alternatives across the web. Currently covers traditional male and female pronouns, relational titles (e.g. "boyfriend", "daughter"), professional and occupational titles (e.g. "Congressman"), and more -- check replacement.js for a full list. To modify the changes that are made, please check the extension options from the Chrome Extensions Menu.

Contribution:

The codebase will always be open source; while users are welcome to modify to make their own modifications/updates, in the spirit of communal development, please submit a Pull Request and I'll see if I can incorporate your changes into the full build! **Have a bug/improvement, but don't want to code it? Make an issue!** Nothing about the app is monetized in any way, so support and updates is limited by my own free time -- if you have any additions or improvements, it makes a better extension for everyone. Contributors will be credited on this README.

Privacy Policy:

All information is modified locally, and the application does not collect or transmit any data about users.

If you have any concerns, suggestions, or questions about the extension, please contact me at [email protected].

gender-neutralize's Issues

Bug with verbs after he/she

Currently removes the S from these words -- e.g. "he jumps" -> "they jump".

Sometimes (but not always, still working on figuring out the criteria) deletes the word, leaving just an S. Interesting bug.

Bugfix: issues with text editing

Rarely, the app will interfere with users being able to edit text boxes -- typically, deleting the first letter typed.

Cause uncertain, investigation greatly appreciated.

Allow users to modify options

  • toggle pronouns replacement -- not neutralizing people's pronouns.
  • dudes/bro replacement
  • toggle removal of male/female?
