optio's Introduction

Optio

A simple wrapper for Ruby's OptionParser. The aim of this library is to be able to use the powerful OptionParser for it's most basic use, with an simpler setup. For things that are a bit more complicated than the very basic usage of options parsing for CLI tools, it's probably better to use Ruby's OptionParser.

Installation

gem 'optio'

And then execute:

$ bundle

Or install it yourself as:

$ gem install optio

Or, install via Rubygems;

$ gem install optio

Usage

The goal is to make the usage somehow similar to the OptionParser one;

require 'optio'

parsed = Optio::Parser.new do |parser|
  parser.switch :verbose, desc: "Verbose!", short: 'v', type: TrueClass
end.parse!

Where the types are the same ones that are specified in here.

Development

After checking out the repo, run bin/setup to install dependencies. Then, run rake test to run the tests. You can also run bin/console for an interactive prompt that will allow you to experiment.

To install this gem onto your local machine, run bundle exec rake install. To release a new version, update the version number in version.rb, and then run bundle exec rake release, which will create a git tag for the version, push git commits and tags, and push the .gem file to rubygems.org.
