Installing OpenJDK fails on some Ubuntu and Debian versions

  • debian:buster:

No package matching 'openjdk-8-jdk' is available

  • debian:stable:

No package matching 'openjdk-8-jdk' is available

  • ubuntu:bionic:

No package matching 'openjdk-13-jdk' is available

Solution:

  • Install AdoptOpenJDK instead of the distibution's JDK
  • Install only one JDK, I only need one (the most recent stable JDK)
  • Uninstall all other JDKs that I don't need
