qahiri's Introduction

Qahiri is a Kufic typeface based on the modernized and regularized old
manuscript Kufic calligraphy style of the late master of Arabic calligraphy
Mohammad Abdul Qadir.

Following the convention of naming Kufic styles after the cities they appeared
in, Qahiri (قاهري) is named after the city of Cairo, Egypt (القاهرة).

Qahiri is a free and open source project, any one is welcomed to use and modify
it under the terms of the version 1.1 of SIL Open Font License. See the
enclosed OFL.txt file for more details.

qahiri's Issues

Can I typeset as in the image?

original-Quran

(This is not an issue, but question.)

Am I missing it, or is it the case that some of the the letters in the image above are different than the letters in the qahiri
typeface? (For example, the letter sin and ayn.) If not, what other options do I have?

Give positive space to 0x0020

Per my comment on google/fonts#2924 GF requires the space glyph to have a width useful for Latin. A locl alt suitable for Arabic is great, but too many legacy systems that GF integrates with assume a Latin space.

Please use OpenFV for tags

The latest release tagged v1.01 is problematic to package for distros because in most systems it evaluates to a lower version number than the previous releases such as v1.008. This is because each segment is typically evaluated as integers, and leading zeros don't affect their value. 01 is less than 008.

If you would stick to the OpenFV specification for version numbers and Git tags this wouldn't be an issue because the second component of the version will always be three digits. The current release would be v1.010 in this scheme, and of course 10 is bigger than 8 so dist packaging would be business as usual.
