Comments on Poster -- Haylee Ham

The template is very clear and has a good natural flow. The labels on your sections are very clear. I really like the consistent use of colors on all of the plots, maybe next time consider using one of those colors for the title as well. In general, I think the poster is too wordy. Cutting back is hard, but you could probably do with less background information. The plots in general are very clean. I especially like the distribution of liquidity index by life cycle index plot. The first coefficient plot with all of the life cycles on it is great, but the other coefficient plots may have been clearer had they been presented in a table.

Hi Alice,
The overall organization is very clear. Aesthetically it looks brilliant; I just would place the graphs under model estimated coefficient in a different way. The number of firms was very different, I couldn't see what was done to address for those. I liked how every section was clear and well-formatted. It was great that you displayed everything through plots and not just dumb tables, I could understand your findings clearly. The research question and the conclusion was clear. In the background section, instead of a single block of test, it could have been broken down into two paragraphs.

The tables are nicely formatted. In some cases, you might want to add captions below the tables explaining things like what units the different variables are measured in. As a rule of thumb, someone should be able to skim through the paper, look at the tables and figures, and still get the main takeaways. The results are clearly presented. The information in Tables 2 and 8 might have been better presented in figures. For p-values, it is sufficient to state <0.01 whenever the value is very small. Write "Table X" rather than "TableX" when labeling tables.

The poster is nicely formatted and looks very pleasing. The first thing I noticed is that there are too many words. You have extensively introduced your paper in “Background” section and “Specific Aim”. I think Data section is not needed. Instead, you could have provided some descriptive statistics of some key variables and produce some plots. You have two measurement sections, which I do not know why you put them there. Are those your independent variables?

Plots look nice but the labels are not very readable. I could not tell which variables are on the x-axis and y-axis. In “Estimated Model Coefficient” section, I think presenting a regression table would definitely be better than giving a plot of coefficients. It helps readers to know what coefficients are statistically significant and which are not.

The poster consists of several sections on how to answer the research question step by step, and introduces many related concepts and indices used in the project, but many details are text. For the data section, it is better to include a table for variable description. There are several graphs there showing the results, and they are generally informative by using different colors. However, It is better to show the estimated coefficients in a table instead of using graphs. Finally, all results and the conclusion answers the research question clearly.

Nice presentation of plots. Construction of index is clear. Potential improvement can be made on the introduction part. Specifically, why is understanding the relationship between capital structure and asset liquidity important? Furthermore, this part can shed light on the conclusion: what is the causal relationship between liquidity and capital structure? Are you trying to understand the causal relationship?
As for life cycle index, it can be a little bit more clear on the method you use for classification. Are you using supervised or unsupervised learning? Or it’s a simple construction of index? For the general suggestion on the paper, it would be great if you can further explore the specific characteristic of the five types of firms: what causes the relationship described in the paper?
In general, I think this is a good presentation and the research question is defined clearly.
