adguardknowledgebase's Issues

An article about mixed-approach to ad blocking

Ideally, I'd like to have it as a blog post.

Mixed approach:

  1. Enable simplified domain names filter
  2. Disable Adguard for all apps except browsers and DNS (and maybe Anrdoid OS -- we should test it).
  3. Enable "Filter DNS requests"
  4. Enable HTTPS filtering.

So, in-app ads will be blocked by the DNS filtering, and in-browser ads will be nicely blocked by default filtering.

We should ask people to try it and give their feedback. If they like it, we might add a simple switch for enabling this filtering mode.

Add "Useful ads" page

Talking about this page:
https://adguard.com/en/whitelist.html

  1. You should also change the page content. Please find the article plan below.
  2. Add a redirect from the website to the knowledge base.

Useful ads

Disclaimer it has nothing to do with the acceptable ads program, we don't take money for it.

We unblock only websites' self-promotion and search ads.
This is voluntary, you can choose either to block or not block this kind of ads.

What is search ads and why we consider it useful?

Contextual advertising in search engines helps you to find what you are looking for. The credibility of these ads is often higher than that of organic search results. This is because all the contextual ads have been manually moderated.

TODO: Add more arguments

What is websites self-promotion?

TODO: Describe what it is. For instance, promotion of the websites' own products. Link Adguard's filters policy, it is stated there that websites self-promotion should not be blocked on purpose.

What ads are on the list?

Search engines: Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask, Yandex, DuckDuckGo.
TODO: We should also add startpage.com to the list.

Summary

Add more information to the userscripts page

We should re-write the whole page.

Simple plan:

  1. What is a userscript?
  2. List of the recommended userscripts.
  3. Where can I find more userscripts?
  4. How can I develop my own userscripts?

More general repository name?

I would either suggest creating more repositories for the other websites (blog/aff/mobile/main/forum/etc...) or ( whats the best solution IMO make this repo more general (like AdguardTeam/AduardWebsite for example) and create badges for the different subsites.

Add "Strip URLs from tracking parameters" detailed description

This is a new feature of the "Stealth Mode" module.

List of parameters being removed:

            "utm_source",
            "utm_medium",
            "utm_term",
            "utm_content",
            "utm_campaign",
            "utm_referrer",
            "yclid",
            "gclid",
            "_openstat",
            "fb_action_ids",
            "fb_comment_id",
            "fb_action_types",
            "fb_ref",
            "fb_source",
            "action_object_map",
            "action_type_map",
            "action_ref_map"

Review articles formatting

Known issues:

  1. Headings of the same size.
  2. No screenshots (prepare a simple instruction on how to take nice screenshots).

Add a "cheatsheet" article about filter rules

Sometimes we need to add a simple rule for blocking a single URL, but KB have no examples for trivial cases.
I think we should start 'Basic rules' page with a list of trivial cases.
