acoli-corpora's Issues

b.PSA.9 and following

There is a systematic discrepancy in psalm numbering in different families of the Bible. In our data, we normally didn't verify which numbering system applies.

  • masoretic numbering (= Lutheran): in Hebrew, psalms 9 and 10 form a logical unit (one verse for every letter in the alphabet) that spans over two separate psalms
  • Septuagint/Vulgate numbering (= pre-Reformation): in the Septuagint, psalms 9 and 10 were merged into psalm 9, so that all following psalms have an offset of 1 compared to Hebrew and Lutheran bibles

I would expect that medieval, orthodox and Catholic Bibles use the Septuagint numbering and that 19th c. and earlier translations are a mixed bunch. Most 20th c. Bible translations are, however, Evangelical and should use the masoretic numering.

update build scripts

Several Bible portals have changed their protocols, some are down or have moved to other servers.
TODO: General overhaul of all build scripts, archiving converted Bibles (unless directly publishable) under Zenodo, with embargo period set to the expiration of copyright (Germany: 75 years after death of author) , resp. edition rights (Germany: 25 years after edition; if we don't know publication time for the web edition, this is 25 years after initial download).
[Note: the initial data set was built in 2012, so edition rights for this data are waived in 15 years from now ;)]

However, this is a huge chunk of work, so it might take a while to happen.

Change Bible tag a.ECC to a.SIR, to avoid confusion with b.ECC

Currently the canonical book Kohelet (lat. Ecclesiastes) appears to be tagged as b,ECC, while the apocryphal Jesus Sirach (lat. Ecclesiasticus) is tagged as a.ECC.

Mixing up Ecclesiastes and Ecclesiasticus is a time-honoured tradition, but I would still suggest changing a.ECC to a.SIR.
