ugradio's Introduction

UC Berkeley Undergraduate Radio Lab

This course consists of four laboratory experiments that concentrate on radio instrumentation and laboratory techniques. We will build receiving, observing, and data analysis systems for two telescopes: a single-dish 21-cm line system, and a 10.7-GHz interferometer. We will use these telescopes for astronomical observing projects including structure of the Milky Way galaxy, precise position measurement of several radio sources, and measurement of the radio brightness distributions of the sun and moon with high angular resolution. There is a heavy emphasis on digital data acquisition, software development in the Python language, and high-quality written reports.

The class website is located at https://casper.ssl.berkeley.edu/astrobaki/index.php/Undergraduate_Radio_Lab.

ugradio's Issues

Left side of KH3202R filter seems to be broken

We were putting in a 1 MHz signal mixed with a 1.1 MHz signal into both sides of KH3202 tunable filter on rack in UG lab. On the left side, we saw no suppression of the 2.1 MHz signal when setting the filter to LPF x10k with the dial set to 100 Hz (nominally, a 1 MHz LPF). The right side did just fine with switches in the same position.

PicoSampler giving 200 bogus samples

ARP 1/30/18

Some groups are getting ~200 bogus samples at start of data capture. should test picoserver to see if this is the fault of capture code or is something deeper in the picosampler

Faulty contact in PTS 200 Synthesizer?

The PTS 200 Synthesizer (the one on the left-most rack) currently changes amplitude drastically for certain frequency knob positions. 10 MHz seems particularly bad. The problem is probably a faulty contact in the switch that the knob controls.

Missing dependencies

Running pip install ugradio_code doesn't automatically install scipy or rtlsdr
