City labels aren't positioned exactly the same

I ran into an issue with text-dx where if I set the value to 1 through 10, it always moved it about 10 pixels which looked worse. The compromise was to leave them where they sit now but it's not exactly the same.

Disable "grid" above land

I've imported Toner-for-Tilemill into Tilemill and started to modify the styles. However I have this grid that is visible on top of all land, from zoom levels above 7 (see attached image), and I can't figure out how to turn it off.

I can't see this grid on the original stamen map (could this be something I've accidentally introduced?). Do you know how I can disable these grids?

They need to be below more land features, like parks.

Road labels on both sides

This is an annoying problem I see a little bit of on Stamen's maps but a lot of on mine. I don't know if it's the Mapnik 2 labels changes or what but there are a lot more roads with double labels and it looks really bad. For example:

The only positioning I've found that fixes it is to put the label on the actual line as opposed to above or below it, but it really messes up the whole look of Toner.
