Oversetter is an translation app, which allows you to translate content directly from your menu bar. Oversetter is an open-source project based on Angular and Electron. It uses free API of Yandex Translate for text translation.

You can download the latest version of the application for macOS, Windows and Linux.

Oversetter is also available as snap package:

sudo snap install oversetter

How to use

Register free Yandex Translate API-Key (or use built-in dev-key for the first time).
Install dependencies, build and run application with electron:

npm install
npm run build
npm run run:electron

Development

npm run build-dev

and

NODE_ENV=dev npm run run:electron

App Packaging

npm run build:mac
npm run build:linux
npm run build:windows
npm run build:all

or

npm run package:all

Sort language dropdown alphabetically

It would work even better if the languages in the dropdown were sorted in alphabetical order, as then you could type more than the first character.

Would help negate #2

Making it easier to select language

You can probably see how it might be a bit of a pain to select the base language and the language you want translated to, since the list is longer than my monitor (Good for Yandex, bad for me :P). Having a lil search bar and maybe having most-used (per user) languages at the top might be a good solution.

Cool app btw, I suspect I will be using it a lot.

Auto-detect

I don't know how easy this would be using the API, but the website has a useful feature where it will automatically detect the base language.

The menu bar icon highlights but no window appears.
