Hi,
I appreciate your suggestion, but it is difficult to add .gitignore to the root directory because it is the use case unexpected by the developer.
zplug developer want the users to manage zplug with zplug update --self.

I think @pirj has a point though, if you compare to say fzf or nvm, they have a .gitignore setup and the working directory stays clean to git - for example fzf ignores it's "./bin/" folder.
