Hi, why would you want to regulate information sharing in any way?

It is regulated by default. At least in Czech Repoublic, the default license is "You cannot do anything."

the situation is the same in France :/ . You can read this github post

Hi, why would you want to regulate information sharing in any way?

Many reasons. I'll try to expose them with my poor english :)

  • this list is really useful, and, according to me, it's a unfortunate not to distribute or consolidate it.
  • I am convinced a large part of contributors think that this list is Open Source
  • If you close your Github repository, this list will be lost
  • This list uses the PHP community to improve. Make it open source would be a just reward for the community

Exemple of tools based on this list:

  • I'd like publish a visual representation of these list (in Open Source, of course).
  • I'm the author of PhpMetrics. I would be very interesting for me to make demographic analysis (fr) of source code of all these tools (in order to improve anomaly's detection)
  • We can also imagine statistical tools...

If you don't want to regulate anything, you can also go for the "Do What the Fuck You Want to License" :)

@mnapoli That one is great :)

@jkufner @Halleck45 Didn't know that. Still I don't understand the need to add anything more complex then WTFpl.

Halleck45 avatar Halleck45 commented on May 25, 2024

I was not sure that WTFPL could be applied to database, so I ask my colleague, specialized in Open Source governance. Here is his answer:

WTFPL is great: it's more a copyright licence than a database licence, but, considering its wording, it surely conveys the idea clearly enough, even if applied to a database.

@Halleck45 Great. Btw, do you know any really cases for breaking those free licenses? I'd like to know some.

ziadoz avatar ziadoz commented on May 25, 2024

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I wasn't aware that certain countries had such restrictive default licenses. I've added a license file (WTFPL) so people know where they stand.
