That's a good FR! I think the easiest way to do this right now would be to declare no middleware and sort of roll the process on your own. Eg, do the request and then take your custom list of middleware and execute each in order. I'll pull this into our tracker and will circle back if we ever work on it.

I'm closing as "won't do". We see this would be convenient but there are ways to get around. For instance, in the global middleware App.afterResponse you could skip the middleware with an if if it doesn't apply to the inflight request. Or, you could write a global afterResponse that executes response.afterResponse if it's present in the response object.
