Recycling is known for being the better alternative to managing waste and preserving our environment, however, accessing reliable facilities that support this system is difficult, especially in Trinidad and Tobago. Being a small island with a fragile ecosystem and limited land space, improper waste management poses a major threat. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL), in Port of Spain, the island’s capital, 1.54kg of garbage per inhabitant is produced each day. We, VisioTech, hope to develop a smart recycling management solution to combat this problem. The Smart Recycling Collection (SRC) system is an integrated waste management system that coordinates, in real time, the collection and distribution of recyclable materials. This solution targets both citizens and recycling companies, where its main components are the SRC bins and the SRC monitoring application.
