When I use gdb from the command line, I can debug just fine.

But when I use your extension:

• very slow startup
• the breakpoints are mis-aligned

It's a bit unusable. I run Archlinux. If you need a shell for testing, please send me your ssh public key.

Want to be able to do simple step debugging from the comfort of vim. :)

Did you notice https://github.com/albfan/BreakPts can do visual debug for vimL?

I have use it on complex vim plugins succesfully.

Basically start a vim server:

$ vim --servername myserver

Then on another vim client

$ vi
:BreakPts
:BPRemoteServ myserver

Then you can define breakpoints from server or from client

Once debugging, on client:

:BPDWhere
:BPDNext
:BPDStep
:BPDEvaluate <whatever>

It relays on a trick about read client-server messages, but since it allows you to evaluate code, seems invaluable to debug vim.
