I know. I started to set it up and then realized that I had to pay for an enterprise slack account (which I won’t do) in order for this to work properly en masse.

Can you perhaps do what the networktocode slack room creator did? See:

When I click on it, it seems valid, and I copied it from my browser's URL bar. It gets me to simple web page where I just entered my email and hitting the button subscribed me to the networkcode slack room. The second link is just to a tweet from Jason Edelman announcing the self-sign app he made available (in response to exactly the same problem as you have).

That works for me as well. Seems to take me to the same page. If you want to make your YANG discussion slack group self-subscribable, can you rip off his code for doing it? Or…?
