Try changing your TV Picture settings. On Wii the game displays with a slightly taller than 16:9 aspect ratio with black bars to the sides. The Wii video output typically clips off the top part in official software to retain aspect ratio, though I guess Homebrew doesn't fall under the same limitations.

Could you just move the debug text/hud a little more toward the center of the image so it isn't captured in overscan?

I think this is supposed to be more like minecraft, but you could have different settings

I have the same overscan issue on my TV. I tried to stretch the image, but the best a Wii can output is about a 15:9 aspect ratio. No idea why Nintendo chose to do this. You could use Wii2HDMI, there the image isn't cropped, but has black sidebars instead. For the next release I will remove the debug text, so this problem won't be noticed as easily.

Your player is probably stuck because you moved the camera to close to the ground in a previous version (just dig yourself out).
