Hey there, main difference is epy was made to have more features like common gui ebook reader but running on terminal. While epr is minimal solution to read just epub file in terminal. So epy has all features epr has, but with more additional features epr doesn't have, eg:

  • more supports for file format: mobi, azw, fictionbook, url.
  • reading progress indicator
  • page flip animation
  • seamless reading between chapter
  • and more features mentioned in readme

It doesn't mean, that epr development will be ditched in favor of epy, it's in different direction. Epr will always be minimalist epub reader, while epy will be more extensible full feature ebooks (not just epub) reader. While both running on terminal with lower resources than gui reader...

from epy.
