You're welcome! Blocks inside {} are syntactically basically the same as the top-level of Rash, so the same rules apply about multiple lines, s-expression escapes, etc.

Did using {} instead of #{} solve your problem? (In other words, should I close the issue?)

If instead of #{foo} you just use {foo} the output goes to (current-output-port) rather than being redirected to a string. Does that work for you?

Also, you might rewrite the whole thing as:

(define (main prefix [makej 1])
  {
    cd solvers/z3
    python scripts/mk_make.py --prefix=$prefix
    cd build
    make VERBOSE=1 -j $makej
    make VERBOSE=1 -j $makej install
  })
