Hello,

Do you have some error in the .xsession-errors log ?

from gnome-shell-extensions-mediaplayer.

ArtKun avatar ArtKun commented on July 28, 2024

Here is the full content of my xsession-errors after freezing and restarting X by ctrl+alt+backspace. I've noticed that I got errors about xfwm4 and docky, that's because previously I have used XFCE, and forgot to delete them from Startup Apps after installing GNOME 3.

There is no obvious error about my extention on the log... So I don't know what could be wrong :/

I'm also using Archlinux and I don't experience any problem with the extension

from gnome-shell-extensions-mediaplayer.

ArtKun avatar ArtKun commented on July 28, 2024

Today I also noticed, that it often happens with Banshee and HTML5 videos in Chromium playing at the same time. Will try to use Firefox for a while, and see what happens...

ArtKun avatar ArtKun commented on July 28, 2024

Weird, but I get shell freezes even without Chrome of Firefox running... Maybe there are other log files I can look for?

from gnome-shell-extensions-mediaplayer.

eonpatapon avatar eonpatapon commented on July 28, 2024

No I don't think so

Are you sure it happens only with my extension ?

from gnome-shell-extensions-mediaplayer.

giorgiodg avatar giorgiodg commented on July 28, 2024

Same problem for me too, it happens when using alt+tab to switch between windows.

from gnome-shell-extensions-mediaplayer.

ArtKun avatar ArtKun commented on July 28, 2024

Unfortunately, I didn't use alt+tab ever in my life :)

from gnome-shell-extensions-mediaplayer.

ArtKun avatar ArtKun commented on July 28, 2024

I'm sorry, it happens even without your extension. I removed all extensions, installed nouveau driver instead of nvidia blob, and this bug still exists... So I had to install XFCE, and I like it :) Waiting for more information about this bug, or for 3.4 release.

I was having this problem too, but it's gone away since I disabled the extension. Below is some recent stuff from .xsession-errors in case it helps. For me it would happen when I was doing an Alt-tab. The Alt-Tab thing would be frozen on the desktop. Sometimes I could still click on other windows and type in them, other times not. I generally had to ctrl-alt-2 to a virtual desktop and kill gnome-shell to recover control.

Aside from that, it's a nifty extension that I would love to be able to use. Let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks for your report

It seems the crashes are happening randomely.. And there is also nothing in the .xsession-errors.. I'm trying to figure it out, but I don't really know where to look

BTW, when the shell crashes like this you can blindly type : alt+f2 r enter , and the shell will be back without loosing your session

from gnome-shell-extensions-mediaplayer.

eonpatapon avatar eonpatapon commented on July 28, 2024

Hello,

It seems that the timer was causing the g-s crashes... So it is disabled now until I find a workaround

Can you test the latest version ?

Thanks

from gnome-shell-extensions-mediaplayer.

dwcramer avatar dwcramer commented on July 28, 2024

Sure. Has the update been pushed out to the webupd8 PPA or should I do a make install from the source from github?

from gnome-shell-extensions-mediaplayer.

dwcramer avatar dwcramer commented on July 28, 2024

"BTW, when the shell crashes like this you can blindly type : alt+f2 r enter , and the shell will be back without loosing your session"

In this case the freeze prevented alt+f2 from working. A virtual terminal was the only way I could kill gnome-shell.

dwcramer avatar dwcramer commented on July 28, 2024

I went ahead and built from source. So far so good. No freezes or sluggishness yet. I'll let you know if I see any.

Now if only there were a Google Music extension for Banshee!

Thanks,
David

Sorry, I spoke too soon above. Shortly after I posted that message, gnome froze again. I eventually had to reboot and turn off the extension, but because of the reboot I forgot to come back and comment on this thread. So sadly I still can't use the extension. Let me know if there's information I can send to help you debug.

This crashes are now fixed in current master

Don't hesitate to re open the bug if it happens again
