This has been fixed in a series of commits with a new index structure (prompting v1.3.xxxx release series) in which all locale preferences are now deferred until runtime. Obviously, any index can only support locales that are supported by the specific installed language reference sets from the installed distribution(s), but at least now we can choose one of those supported locales at runtime, rather than having an inconsistent approach in which for search, the cached preferred synonym was only for a single 'golden' locale, rather than supporting all installed locales.
