I usually get command arguments by creating a simple StringBuilder

/**
* Used to get arguments from a command
*
* @param start the argument to start from.
* @param args command argument list
* @return the arguments after the specified point
*/
private String getArguments(int start, String[] args) {
    StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder();
    for (int i = start; i < args.length; i++) {
        builder.append(args[i]);
        builder.append(" ");
    }
    return builder.toString().trim();
}

This method is to get arguments from a command, example if I did
"/alert Welcome to the server!"
then did getArguments(0, args), it would return "Welcome to the server"
if I did getArguments(2, args), it would return "the server"

I can make a pr for you if you want, not sure where you would want it though
