/cc @emacsomancer @cr6git You two were involved in the very similar elogind problem - any thoughts?

Comment by emacsomancer on 9 Apr 2018
Unfortunately the only reason I had elogind installed was because it got pulled in as a dependency of something (nautilus?) and I 'solved' it by just uninstalling whatever pulled in elogind.

@sstt011 Me? no clue... ask @cavalier911 / cardinal (elogind-errors-on-boot-slower-login) ?

/cc @pullmoll A while back you made a musl elogind patch (about 9 months ago). What was the scenario then? Similar?
from void-packages.
Comment by pullmoll on 10 Apr 2018
This patch has nothing to do with the crash, but only shields a comparison of a macro's value against a number with the prerequisite that this macro is defined at all. It's just compiler cosmetics in that sense.
Do you have cgmanager
runinng, i.e. sudo sv status cgmanager
?
from void-packages.
I also 'solved' this by getting rid of anything (like nautilus
) that pulled in elogind
.

@pullmoll nope, it doesn't even exist:
fail: cgmanager
elogind was originally pulled in by GNOME.
So I installed it with sudo xbps-install cgmanager
, linked it (ln -s /etc/sv/cgmanager /var/service
) and rebooted.
And we do get a little further - still dosen't work, but there is a new error message:
Failed to create /elogind control group: No such file or directory.
Very similar - both are about control groups. Thoughts anyone?

@emacsomancer Nice "solution", but I use GNOME and nautilus
... Keeping open.

I admit I don't even exactly know which services you need to run to execute gdm.
Perhaps someone with more insight can tell what other service you need to install and run.
Or perhaps list your services with ls /var/service/
and let's find out what's missing there.

@sstt011 AFAIK ConsoleKit2
needs cgmanager
. For elogind
I imagine it's the same?
from void-packages.
Comment by sstt011 on 13 Apr 2018
@pullmoll sorry for the delay.
On my glibc system ls -1 /var/service
:
agetty-tty{1..6}
dbus
dhcpcd
gdm
udevd
Same for my musl system but with the addition of cgmanager
(which I added manually as per @cr6git s idea.)

@sstt011 so, what's new?
from void-packages.
Comment by sstt011 on 16 Apr 2018
@cr6git Nothing further has happened on this issue. I can't see any good reason why this would be the case, maybe an upstream bug?
from void-packages.
Thanks importing this issue over. Actually I cannot reproduce the bug.
from void-packages.
Can you debug / strace elogind?
from void-packages.
Elogind was updated to 238. Does the bug still happen ?
from void-packages.
No activity since 20 days, cannot reproduce.
Closing the issue

Sorry, for some time now I have been distro-hopping and (as always) ended up back at void linux. No, I cannot reproduce now, the update must have fixed it :)
