Oh well. I had time today.

I have uploaded wait-for-it to Debian. It should be available in a couple of days.

Hey guys.

Debian Developper here.

Unless one of you guys wanted to do it, I'll package wait-for-it for Debian and publish it next week. Maybe tuesday.

sudo apt update && sudo apt install wait-for-it worked for me.

That's on Debian systems. I'm looking for Fedora/CentOS.

If you would like to volunteer to package wait-for-it.sh, that would be great -- in the meantime, you can always use the raw file link https://raw.githubusercontent.com/vishnubob/wait-for-it/master/wait-for-it.sh in your deployment scripts.

That is good advice as long as you dont change the parameters to the script on master. Eventually publishing it to a package manager will give you greater flexibility without breaking things for your (very thankful) consumers.

I will setup my project to pull from that link. I wont be able to setup the packaging for a bit, so I will leave this open for anyone for now. I will pick it up once I get some time.

Well, even with a package manager, you would have to introduce the notion of a release. Like saying that today's version of master is v1.0.0. Then you could create a package (rpm, deb, ...) for v1.0.0.

How do you know when to create v1.0.1 (or should it be v1.1.0?) - someone will have to decide when to call something a release. Since this repo currently does not use the concept of versions/releases, it's going to be hard to map that to a package manager.

Would be great to have it in apk too: http://wiki.alpinelinux.org/wiki/Creating_an_Alpine_package

Will the package be available in Jessie at some point? or is it impossible or is it impossible to include it?

from wait-for-it.

aviau avatar aviau commented on July 21, 2024

It could, but it would would never be in the main repositories, it would be in jessie-backports. However, I don't intend to spend time doing that.

This is a neat tool, has anyone tried to get it into EPEL?
