Feedback for “Middleware – SWR” about swr-site HOT 3 CLOSED

In the end I used the debugger and I figured out I want to do this:

  const middleware =  function(useSWRNext) {
    return (key, fetcher, config) => {
      const swr = useSWRNext(key, fetcher, config)

      swr.data = new MyClass(swr.data)

      return swr
    }
  }

But it throws an error because there is no setter on SWR.data....

@fotoflo You can try to override the data property by Object.assign({}, swr, { data: ...}). There's a similar section in the middleware doc

Out of curiosity, why you want to wrap data with a class instance here? Instances are not easy to differentiate by swr itself, I think you might need to store it and decide when to update.

Actually i ended up moving the wrapping of the data with the class instance into the fetcher as that seemed more clean.

Classes provide OOP inheritance - the data can then have Class Methods... You can also use instanceof to ensure youre working with data of the class. I havent used OOP in a long time and wanted to re-familiarize myself with it on this personal project.

My class extends Array.. so i can now create pipelines similar to

const data = new MyClass(data)
const ouptut = data.filter()
  .map()
  .myMethod() // my method!
