All topics at https://dev.twitch.tv/docs/pubsub/#topics are listed with a scope. App access tokens can not have scopes. Therefore, it does not make sense to me to allow app access tokens.

On the docs it says "All topics require an OAuth token, but only some topics have a specific required scope (noted in the table)."
Doesn't it mean only some topics require scope?

What I'm trying to do is to get live viewcounts with "video-playback-by-id" topic with onCustomTopic like this:

twitch.pubsub.onCustomTopic(userId, "video-playback-by-id", ...);

So to test it, I modified the twurple source to ignore and return app access token, and it works fine.

This is an undocumented topic that is not officially supported, so there are no plans to specifically accommodate it.

The documentation stating "some topics require authentication" comes from a time when there were indeed officially supported topics without authentication, which is not the case anymore, and that part should probably be removed by Twitch.

Getting viewer counts is not a supported scenario by Twitch anyway, and the topic you're using may go away at any point in time without warning.
