I think this looks like a great thing to have. While working on the mapping example, having a dedicated AnvilChunk would have simplified things greatly. I think I'll hold off on making a pull request with that example until these are implemented, to show off the new, easier way to work with Anvil. Will it be integrated with WorldFolder?

What is the proper name of the previous format? "Region"? "McRegion"? I noticed that http://www.minecraftwiki.net/McRegion now redirects to "Region file format".
Given that this format was used before the Region file format (and the McRegion mod), perhaps the name of this chunk format was Beta, which previously resided in a stand-alone file and later in a Region file. Is BetaChunk better than McRegionChunk?

I'm pretty sure they called it McRegion. That's how it was referred to when Anvil was announced "The files of the current format (“McRegion”) will remain in your save folder, if you need to restore them for some reason."
