I'll push it; no clue if it "works" though -- I'm actually a total noob when it comes to packaging, and frankly have the faintest idea what it is used for :) (if someone can enlighten me with this respect, that'll be great ;) ).

distribute's default packaging method will only include *.py files inside the package. if you wish to include text files/docs/test data with your bundled package you need to define it in the manifest file. To test if it works, run ./setup.py sdist to bundle a "source distribution"
