"Precious" might be overstating things a bit, but point taken. I hate having a bunch of crap files mixed into my otherwise highly curated .vim directory, so this was me grasping at straws.

I'm going to try ~/.local/share, ~/Library, or ~\Application Data, depending on the platform. This is venturing away from "defaults everyone can agree on", so it might make more sense to make this a separate plugin.

But isn't all the .git directories from Pathogen bundles "a bunch of crap files" too? You could make it a dotdir inside dotvim to make it cleaner, maybe (for the same reasons dotgit inside dotvim doesn't feel unclean).

Well, the .git directories are still relevant if you plunk the .vim dir down on another machine, for example. That's not true of these other files.

I think it is, but I use autowriteall and even a wall on FocusLost, so the undo files are more important to me than maybe to you who I know prefer saving manually.

This is moot now, btw.
