I have problem with that. Almost all this project does is repackaging jcl-over-slf4j (and as a consequence logback) under org.apache.juli name. I don't feel I actually do something meaningful. Now I publish ZIPs (as some kind of overlays for Tomcat) under https://github.com/grgrzybek/tomcat-slf4j-logback/downloads - there are some configurations, licences and original logback-core and logback-access to be copied to Tomcat's lib directory.

The main benefit of Maven Central is the link between your project's POM and global repository of dependencies. This project is more of a patch for Tomcat than real dependency... What do you think?

My original goal was to create (one day...) a pull request to Tomcat's git repository which would allow Tomcat to be build either with original log4j extras or my slf4j+logback extras... But there's only 24 hours a day... :)

I think a pull request against tomcat's git would be best. Personally, I rather like using slf4j/logback across the board if possible. If tomcat pulls this in, then maybe they might eventually switch to this instead.

My group at work is just now switching over to using ivy for everything and this seemed like something needed so we don't have one offs. However, I learned today we can load such things into our local nexus repository and ivy hooks in just fine. For the time being I'll go this direction as it will solve our needs.

Only thoughts on a pull request would be to do so only against tomcat 7 since that seems to be where all the effort is going these days.

Hello!

I still have this on my TODO list - I regularly synchronize my tomcat7.0's
fork, but don't have time to add these changes there... :(

Ivy's nice - we're using pure Maven instead - not very fancy configuration

  • just dependency management and some WAR overlays - now since recently m2e
  • m2e-wtp works fine, so our POMs are imported to Eclipse without problems.
Does Ivy have such Eclipse plugin/importer?

Hi,
Just FYI:

Disclaimer: I haven't used it

I have not used the above either. It's on my ever growing list of things to try :)

My list of technologies to try is also very long! Now I'm also a bit in a
.NET land - must do some SharePoint work (yuck!).
