fastread is quite young. We don't necessarily aim at competition against data.table::fread
. I've seen cases where we do better, and other where we don't.
We do want good performance, but most importantly we want nice, good, enjoyable, predictable syntax.

sure, but data.table::fread already mimics the base::read.csv syntax, which is likely to be what people will know. Is fastread aim at reading more than csv files ?
