I'm also not sure that the numbers themselves are as important as the scale; consider draft 1 and draft 2; draft 1 is slightly preferable because it doesn't require special calculations about the width of the string. There could be a tooltip on hover with the number of terms; it could even break out direct descendants and all descendants.

Not a high priority tbh; There are lots of other things that require work. I would just change the color from green to grey. Child count is just not important enough to warrant that kind of attention.
