I would also love to see splitting. Maybe without using AUSplitter (and continue supporting iPad1). A suggestion for an interface:
AEAudioSplitter *splitter = [[AEAudioSplitter alloc] init];
[audioController addFilter:splitter toChannel:sourceChannel];
AEAudioSplitter *channel2 = [[AEAudioSplitter alloc] initWithSourceSplitter:splitter];
[audioController addChannels:@[channel2]];
