It seems the game forcefully attempts to preserve the aspect ratio of the orginal SVG file. Because the aspect ratio of all images is the same as the original image.
Maybe this is related to a Qt update …

OK, this really seems to be related to a Qt update.
On my system, it now affects the stable version 0.9.3.1 as well. But I know for certain this version did NOT have this problem in the past. So very likely it changed after I updated Qt …
Time to dig into the Qt docs, I guess …
