It looks like an incompatibility issue with ffmpeg 2.8.x. Let met make a few tests to understand the cause and fix it.

When running advanced_video_scripts/blurred_background.sh, with the 3 sample videos linked to from the README
Added all three video files inside the media folder. They were already there from the beginning but a .gitignore rule prevented them from being pushed, sorry for that.

The README says 'ffmpeg 2.8.x or later' - which ffmpeg version have you tested with if not 2.8.x?

My initial guess was wrong. This is not an ffmpeg issue at all. This is a bash issue. I managed to reproduce it locally. I identified the reason and I'm working on the fix. I'll post an update as soon as possible.
