Relaying a comment I posted somewhere else:
Currently the default epsilon for everything is 0. The reason for this was that if you're in a notebook and you want to visualize some basic symbolic math, you probably don't want to see the epsilon symbol. But that goes awry when you end up doing something real and getting NaNs. We've talked about having a kind of lazy epsilon object under sm.epsilon that can either be zero or sm.Symbol("epsilon") depending on the context, but haven't done that yet. Curious to hear your thoughts
