seems like files are handled in an internal fs for their wasm thing
like you can create main.tex and more tex files on there

To create a pdf you can look at the releases zip file and see the pdftex file example.
They create a pdf and display it in an iframe.
I don't know how it handles multiple files and what packages are supported but it seems to be very robust.

That's actually why I was asking for some documentation, most of the features seem to work, but I'd rather not spend too much time reverse engineering them.

Most precisely, I'd love to make a vscode extension that bundles the wasm binary to be able to compile my latex projects without having to download any huge distro.
I've been keeping an eye on this project too and think it has some real potential. I my case I'm eyeing it for a way to repackage SILE it a way that would be more approachable. But I digress.
If this is really your use case, why not just use something like tectonic? Running a WASM binary locally so you can use an external editor just doesn't seem to make sense to me.

I didn't know about tectonic, but it seems pretty nice. Now, having that running in vscode web would be a dream, and that's why I was looking for WASM.
