Can you echo $TERM
for me? What's your setup (OS, terminal application, etc.)?
How it appears on mine:

Apparently the problem is when it's inside of tmux (TERM=screen). When
without tmux, it works good.

(in tmux tried with my config and the default - same effect)
This is Linux 3.2.1-gentoo-r2.

You should have this line in your ~/.tmux.conf
:
set -g default-terminal "screen-256color"
A better fix would be to have more contrast in ANSI mode, though, so I'll keep this open for now.

If anyone ever has the same problem: This is a tmux issue, check the discussion we had over there: sorin-ionescu/prezto#528, especially the solutions we came up with in the end.

Closing in favor of forthcoming FAQ explanation.
