I know that is has been a while, but the issue for this was that I was using a self signed certificate which Chrome and Firefox need you to allow before you can use websockets with this certificate. If you used a real certificate from a trusted authority, this won't happen. If you need to get this to work with a self signed cert, you will need to hit the website from https:// that is using this certificate AND the same port as the websocket and then accept it. Once this is done, you won't get this error.

I had this issue too with a self signed cert and found this thread with google. vbguyny's advice fixed the issue.
