In virtual machine you can edit a non-existent document, and with this command, it creates that file as a blank file.

@tandrasfay : so do you mean just 'vi ~/stat157.cfg' and type in what has been written in example.cfg? what do we do with it after saving it?

@SunnySunnia I believe we're using the bConnected key so we can access the questionnaire spreadsheet using the Google API. check the link that @krstnkngs posted.
You're getting the error message because the files don't exist in your virtual machine. it sounds like you cloned the questionnaire repo to your local machine (which I believe is the correct thing to do, as opposed to cloning into your VM.) My first thought is that maybe we should scp the files over to the VM, but I'm hesitant to do that until I've figured out how to use the .cfg file (I think it's there to have the authentication information we need to use the API).
This is the documentation I've found on the gspread API. I'll post more as I figure it out; please share any knowledge you gain too!

Also, I encountered a problem in which I hadn't changed my bConnected key to a real password so it still had symbols like !%: and those actually have meaning in python. So I would recommend changing your bConnected key to an alphanumeric password so that it doesn't trigger any commands in python.

so for now, I have tried
- save example.cfg by 'save link as' to my local Project1 folder and edited the email address and the fake password within hundreds of lines and nodes -,-, then save.
- run virtual machine, 'cp example.cfg ~/stat157.cfg' but received error msg. I then just 'vi ~/stat157.cfg' and made up my own file.
- I imported gspread to ipython notebook with my bconnected key but dont know how to view in on ipython. Also, havent used the .cfg file at all.

You can keep the bConnected spreadsheet open while working (split your screen w/ IPython)

You are not editting example.cfg but copy it to stat157.cfg and edit it from there
Here are my steps: in your terminal
- install git (in your vagrant file directory)
- git clone https://github.com/stat157/questionnaire.git
- copy example.cfg to home directory & named as stat157.cfg
----- "cp example.cfg ~/stat157.cfg" (in questionnaire directory) - Edit stat157.cfg so it will use your full @berkeley username, e.g.: [email protected]. Password is your bConnected key.
------ vi ~/stat157.cfg (questionnaire directory)
------ By pressing the 'i' key, you can switch to insert mode.
------ Press 'Esc' to return to command mode, and :x to save and exit

@wliang88 THX!!! it works!! Do we edit our real bConnected key while editing this stat157.cfg?

The description of the project says yes to your question.
Glad it works, cheers :)
