I just tried it locally, i.e. mvn clean tomcat7:run and it works fine. Could there be corrupt dependencies? I've seen Maven download and save html error pages (e.g. due to network issues) instead of jars. I would use mvn clean package and then try to deploy the war to a Tomcat. Also for the missing dependencies above, open the actual jars in the war file (or in Tomcat) and check that they look ok.

Application is not able to find the server, for this error javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest; Please right click on the project and go to target runtime and select any server like tomcat 7 or tomcat 8 or jboss or any server.

Did not work for me on Jetty or tomcat7 run too
