I wasn't thinking about this last night, but backslashes aren't valid URL characters. Some web browsers will automatically convert them to forward slashes. After looking at node.js's core, it looks like the url module mimics that behavior for browsers that don't convert the slash.

The best way to handle this is to url encode your values if you are sending special characters.
