questions

  1. Why did they stop using hubot?
  2. Did you switch to something better? If so what?

I'm looking for people who could take over the maintenance / development
of this project. I am no longer using Hubot at work, and don't have the
motivation to continue with maintenance, so if you are interested to take
over, please reply to this issue.

@webhamm Hubot is awesome, I just changed jobs and in current one we just have raw slack with no chatops. Another reason, Hubot Control is a bit of hand holding tool, while others (including myself) would probably prefer installing and controlling Hubot with configuration management tools and raw OS init scripts.

I am interested in taking over stewardship, there are a few features I was going to add (like user management) via fork/PR but I can just take over management if you don't have time. I think this project is awesome for folks that aren't really CLI people but still need to be able to manage Hubot (I have some Jr admins and Helpdesk that are really new to Linux at my work).

@wazoo - welcome aboard! Feel free to merge your PR after tests pass.

Sweet! Do you want to keep this on your GH account or create an org? It doesn't really matter to me, not sure how un-involved you want to be.

Since it's a single repo, keeping it under account should be enough. I'll find some time if project settings need changes, just ping me in an issue. Using GitHub every day at work, so I should be quick to react on small things.

I'm also interested in using hubot-control, possibly in a multi-tenant scenario. I'm happy to help with the maintenance of the project to get familiar with the code.

One question for you, @spajus, do you have any roadmap or set of features you wanted to implement but never got around to (apart from current open tickets)?

Welcome aboard @mattwwarren, thanks for joining!

No clear roadmap, just few thoughts from top of my head:

  • some sort of install script or packaging for easy deployment
  • bring gems up to date

The rest is up to the community, feel free to take the initiative.

I'll close this issue now, since 2 new crew members should be enough to get the ball rolling. We can add more later if there is a need.

Even though the ticket seems closed I'm having the same issue. Just installed Hubot-Control via docker according to the README docs and it's telling me Running hubot-control as root user.
(running latest master branch as of 19th August 2016).

Still not being maintained?

spajus avatar spajus commented on September 28, 2024

Let's reopen the ticket then.
@mattwwarren and @wazoo - are you still interested in helping with maintenance of hubot-control?

Hi @lanian2219, thanks for the enthusiasm!
I've decided to grant collaborator rights only to people who made at least one contribution to the project first, so you will have to open a pull request first and get some of your code merged in order to join.

Please update dependencies for this project both gemfile and package.json. I tried but seem to be not working properly.

Thanks @spajus
