Thanks our problem is with dependabot. But it may be that there are other pacakages than this that includes the dependency.
I will reopen if it remains an issue when we try to upgrade.

As you have noted, we use the ~ version, so the ws package should be properly upgraded if you run npm audit fix (or npm update --depth=9999 ws).
Please reopen if needed.
