I do have a flake with nixpkgs as an input. However I was using the command from my home folder. I think there needs some documentation on how to use snow.

It should work ootb how you ran it. What does your nix registry list look like? Or anything on your network configuration that would stop you from accessing this: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/snowflakelinux/nix-data-db/main/nixpkgs-unstable/nixpkgs.ver?
