.deb files for meego should be no problem, but whats with symbian and
signing?
Yeah, I dropped Symbian support from all my apps when they decided to go crazy
about license texts, gps options and donate buttons already.
I'm afraid there is no way around this time, assuming you also won't be
getting any new Symbian developer certificates any more. So you can't even offer
a guide for people to self compile/sign it.

Dear Nokia Developer,
With the growing business opportunities available on the Asha and
Windows Phone platforms, we have been reviewing our developer content
programs to see how we can maximize our support to you, our
developers. As a result of this review, we have decided to focus our
support and investment in new content toward Asha and Windows Phone.
Over the next few months we will be transitioning our active developer
support away from Symbian and MeeGo.If you have Symbian and MeeGo content in the Nokia Store, it will
continue to be available for download to customers, and you will
continue to receive download and revenue reports as well as payouts
for downloaded content. However, starting January 1, 2014, you will no
longer be able to publish any new content or update existing content
for Symbian and MeeGo.We are very excited about the opportunities available with Asha and
Windows Phone, and hope that you will bring your talents to these
platforms. We believe that these changes will help improve our ability
to support you as you develop fantastic apps for your customers.Best regards,
The Nokia Developer Team

Wow! So that's what they call Symbian support at least till 2016?
i could host updates on my site
I have a (VPS) server where I can host the files. It has plenty of free space left, so allocating even few gigabytes wouldn't be a problem. It's also possible to create a dedicated domain/site for this.
or we host them on github.
Do you mean in the repo or does GitHub allow hosting files? I'd strongly advise against putting them in the repo, unless we create a separate one for this (e.g., fahrplan-binaries
).

You can distribute self-signed .sis packages the same way as .deb ones. Fahrplan needs ReadUserData
, WriteUserData
, NetworkServices
and Location
permissions. All of them [seem to be allowed for self-signed packages](http://developer.nokia.com/Community/Wiki/Capabilities_(Symbian_Signed\)). User will get a warning and will be asked whether he wants to continue installation.

I'm also thinking about release a "transition" version of fahrplan with the informations how to get updates of fahrplan post 2014-01-01.
I really want to support the symbian/meego community.

Interesting. Didn't know about his feature.

Yeah, that should definitely be done around November-December. It would be really "fun" if Nokia won't approve this version due to pointing to another download source...
