I think the problem is that when several messages arrive in quick succession, you can end up with multiple worker threads running concurrently, because right now each event is dispatched from its own ThreadPool thread.
I have made some major changes to the code that deals with IDLE and also spent some time trying to make the code inherently thread safe. That being said, I haven't thoroughly tested this yet, so feel free to give it a try if you want ;-)

I haven't had the time to test the experimental branch and I see you already merged it back but it tried the current master branch and it seems like the problems are gone. No more BadServerResponse Exceptions as far as I could tell. Great work!
