Different encoding with and without speedups about simplejson HOT 3 CLOSED

This is expected and documented behavior. For most purposes, ASCII-only str are interchangeable with unicode, but have a much lower memory footprint and can be extracted from str document more quickly. If you expect only unicode output you simply have to provide unicode input.

It returns unicode all the time without speedups enabled because it's simply faster to do so. The input is always converted to unicode up front.
