beta17 removed CSS variables from the dist. Check out the release notes to learn why.

The only major change since then was to split core/component variables into variables.css again to make it easier to bootstrap the library.

Are you sure you were using 17 and not 16 or below?

Oh, that's why I didn't see anything in the release notes, I didn't check 17.

But actually I just double checked. I installed shoelace via yarn, and while my package.json reports beta 17..

$ cat package.json 
{
  ...
  {
    "shoelace-css": "^1.0.0-beta17"
  }
}

however, when I look at the dist css file it shows this:

/*!
  Shoelace.css 1.0.0-beta9
  (c) A Beautiful Site, LLC

So it looks like I've been using a very old version after all.

I ran into that snag too with NPM 5. Not sure why it was happening. I had to remove and reinstall to get the latest version. 🤷‍♂️
